AMI Days, Snow Days and Late Starts

picture of someone shoveling snow

If bad weather, temperatures or road conditions make it unsafe for students to get to school, we will call an AMI distance learning day. If we run out of the five AMI days allowed by the state, we will call a snow day.

Details about Inclement Weather Days

Considerations for Families

If it's cold outside and we have school, here are some considerations for families:

Keep students warm:

If your student rides a bus, you might coordinate with other trusted families to provide children a warm car to wait in until the school bus arrives. If your child walks to school, it's a good idea to coordinate arrangements for a ride when the weather is so cold.

Clothing:

Please make sure your children come to school dressed for the weather, with winter coats, hats and gloves when necessary.

School Preparation for Winter Weather

Please remember that we will continue to monitor the temperatures and wind chill index in case we need to make any further adjustments.

  • Buses: We start our buses around 5 a.m. to make sure the engines start and the buses are ready to pick up students.

  • Schools: We either run the heating system overnight or program it to come on early to make sure we are prepared for students.

  • Recess: When children arrive at school, we'll keep them inside. We make sure to keep students indoors for recesses and physical education classes when temperatures or wind chill are 20 degrees or below and the playground is not cleared of snow and ice.

Notification Time

We will try to let you know about a cancelation or delayed start for students by 5:30 a.m.

Communication

We will send out the notice of the cancelation or delayed start for students using several communications:
